In conversation with Nick Earls and Lawrence English

Past program

“For Bill’s many fans, I hope this will give new insights into his work, while also, for others, being an inviting way to encounter it for the first time. It’s an exhibition visitors can dip into, but also one they can immerse themselves in, for a movie-length experience if they follow it by the book.”

- Nick Earls

Join us online for a page-turning conversation with two acclaimed Brisbane creatives: best-selling author and guest curator of By the Book, Nick Earls and artist, composer and QUT alumnus, Lawrence English.

By the Book draws upon Earls’ non-fiction novella, A New Perspective, to present an immersive exhibition experience that chronicles the life and career of renowned artist, William Robinson. This exhibition includes a new soundscape produced by English that features Robinson playing the piano and field recordings from landscapes the artist has painted.

Learn about Earls’ and English’s collaboration with William Robinson and the QUT gallery team, and explore what has made Robinson the artist he is today.

This event is hosted by QUT Gallery Director, Vanessa Van Ooyen, and will be recorded.

By the Book is showing at the William Robinson Gallery until 27 June 2021. Experience the virtual exhibition and audio book recordings.
